Haier, the smart solutions leader, on 2 February 2026 officially launched operations in the South African market, signaling a long-term strategic commitment to the region. Known worldwide for innovation, sustainability and user-centric design, Haier aims to combine its global strengths with deep localisation bringing advanced products and tailored services to South African partners.

At the launch event, Sun Xinliang, general manager of Haier South Africa, emphasised that this milestone represents a shared vision of innovation, sustainability and value creation. Haier plans to leverage its expansive global ecosystem – including 10 R&D centres, 35 industrial parks and 163 manufacturing bases – to support local manufacturing, assembly and service capabilities in South Africa. This will help the company better meet specific local needs while contributing to employment and industry development. Representatives from government and industry, including officials from the Chinese Embassy and South African provincial departments, attended the launch. Speakers highlighted the strong bilateral trade relationship between China and South Africa, noting that China has been South Africa’s largest trading partner since 2009.
In South Africa, Haier’s strategy rests on four pillars: branding excellence, efficient logistics, premium service and digitalisation. The company aims to be a trusted smart home and appliance brand, offering products tailored to users, customers and communities. It also stressed building robust after-sales support, digital tools for consumers and employees and strong partnerships with local retailers and service providers.

Although the launch focused largely on corporate strategy and vision, Haier’s global product portfolio indicates its intent to offer advanced HVAC systems in South Africa. Haier’s commercial and light-commercial HVAC product lines worldwide include:
- Ducted high-pressure and medium-pressure systems for commercial cooling and ventilation, designed for quiet, efficient operation and fresh-air integration
- Ceiling-floor and tower units suited to light commercial spaces
- Multi-split and ductless systems, offering flexible heating and cooling for residential or small commercial applications
- Heat pumps: side-discharge; single and multi zone
These product lines, known for energy efficiency and smart connectivity, reflect Haier’s broader intent to deliver climate control solutions that align with local commercial Haier’s formal entry into South Africa marks a new chapter in the company’s global expansion, combining innovation with localisation to support smart, efficient and sustainable living across the country.
