The annual Installer Show, held at Birmingham’s NEC, has firmly established itself as the UK’s largest and most vital event for professionals across the heat, water, air and energy technology sectors. Rory Macnamara described the expo as exceptionally well-structured, highlighting its comprehensive offerings that cater directly to the evolving needs of the HVAC&R industry.

This year’s show significantly expanded its focus to fully embrace a wider range of HVAC&R issues, reflecting the industry’s pivotal role in the journey towards Net Zero. A dedicated Climate Solutions Theatre served as a central hub for discussions on cooling, heating, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) systems. The event also notably partnered with World Refrigeration Day, hosting a special programme of activities, including the WorldSkills Refrigeration Finals and IOR Masterclasses, emphasising ‘Cool Skills’ and celebrating the expertise within the cooling industry.

The extensive programme of over 100 talks and seminars was highly targeted at professionals and learners alike, covering critical topics for the HVAC&R sector. Key discussions included:

  • Refrigerants and the path to sustainable cooling: Addressing the latest F-Gas regulations and the transition to low-GWP alternatives.
  • Heat pumps: In-depth sessions exploring their operation, different types, and how to effectively present them to clients, with major manufacturers like Mitsubishi Electric and Navien showcasing their latest R290 models and offering virtual reality training.
  • Green skills: Highlighting the essential training and upskilling required for the decarbonisation of the built environment.
  • Careers in HVAC&R: Providing insights and guidance for those looking to enter or advance within the industry, including discussions on encouraging an inclusive workforce and celebrating neurodivergent talent.
  • Operational efficiency and new product innovations: Exhibitors, including major HVAC manufacturers, used the platform to launch cutting-edge products and solutions, with opportunities for hands-on experience.
  • Policy and industry challenges: Discussions with government representatives and industry leaders on issues and barriers faced by installers on the ground.

The Installer Show is not just an exhibition; it’s a comprehensive platform for networking, learning, and staying ahead of industry trends. Its robust content program and the presence of leading manufacturers and associations make it an indispensable event for HVAC&R professionals looking to future-proof their businesses and contribute to a sustainable future.

Of course, new products and services were also featured at the event.
