A special word of appreciation also goes to the enthusiastic golfers who braved the elements and showcased true sportsmanship on the stunning Wedgewood course.

While there were too many sponsors to name individually, all were gratefully acknowledged during the evening’s proceedings. However, the hole sponsors deserve a special mention for their standout contributions to the day’s success.

Weathering the Storm: A Day of Grit and Good Spirits

Hole 18 was proudly sponsored by Stewarts & Lloyds, and while the adverse weather conditions prevented us from capturing a photo of their stand, we want to extend a sincere thank you to them—and to all our hole and event sponsors. Their support is invaluable.

These contributions not only enhance the day’s experience but also offer meaningful engagement between sponsors and players. Without their involvement, events like these would simply not be the same.

Tee-off began at 11:40 with the first four balls setting out from both the 1st and 10th holes. The atmosphere was electric with anticipation, but just 45 minutes into play, a light drizzle set in. It didn’t take long for the rain to intensify, and within two hours, the players were thoroughly soaked. As thunder rumbled and lightning lit up the skies, golf management made the prudent call to bring all players back to the clubhouse for safety.

Despite the weather, spirits remained high. Teams gathered indoors, enjoying drinks and laughter while waiting out the storm. After about an hour’s delay, the skies began to clear. With lightning and thunder moving off, 15 of the 17 four balls eagerly returned to the course to complete their rounds.

Though the rain persisted for a short while longer, the rest of the day gradually opened up, allowing most players to finish their games. What began as a damp challenge turned into a testament of resilience and camaraderie—proof that not even the weather could dampen the spirit of the SAIRAC Gqeberha Golf Day.

Prize giving started at 18:30 and all golfers present received prizes.

Fundraising highlights and a heartfelt thank you

Adding to the excitement of the day, SAIRAC Gqeberha was fortunate to receive two incredible sponsored items: a MIG welding machine and a pizza oven. These fantastic prizes were auctioned off during the evening’s festivities, raising an additional R4 500 in support of SAIRAC initiatives.

A special thanks and round of applause went to Rozelle Scotson for her dedication and hard work in coordinating yet another memorable Golf Day.
