The increasing thermal demands of 5G networks, edge computing and other critical infrastructure are driving the need for compact, efficient and dependable cooling solutions. A new generation of cooling units has been developed specifically for these applications, combining low-GWP R454C refrigerant, integrated free cooling and an EN 378-compliant safety architecture.

The fourth-generation TelAir 4 and WallAir 4 systems are designed to provide reliable temperature control in telecommunications containers, shelters, radio stations and edge data centres. The two systems offer different installation approaches, allowing cooling equipment to be matched to the requirements and available space of the infrastructure.
Two approaches to installation
TelAir 4 is intended for indoor installation, while WallAir 4 can be mounted externally on the wall of a container, providing a space-saving monoblock configuration. Both ranges are available in two standard enclosure sizes and four cooling capacity classes between 6 and 17kW.
Energy efficiency has been given particular attention. Through a combination of free cooling and mixed-mode operation, the units can reduce operating costs by up to 80%. Built-in electronically commutated (EC) fans meet the requirements of the forthcoming ErP 2027 Ecodesign Directive. Both systems are designed to operate across temperatures from -20°C to +54°C, while an optional winter kit extends the operating range to -40°C for extreme climates.
The WallAir 4 range gives users a choice between conventional on/off configurations with thermostatic expansion valves and continuously modulating EC inverter compressors combined with electronic expansion valves. Both options use hermetically sealed refrigeration circuits to improve reliability.
Safety built around R454C
The use of the A2L refrigerant R454C is supported by a multi-stage safety architecture designed to comply with EN 378. The evaporator fan is positioned at the bottom of the unit to help dilute and remove refrigerant gases should a leak occur.
A two-stage sensor system responds as refrigerant concentration increases. At 10% of the lower flammability limit (LFL), the system increases fan speed and shuts down other power consumers. At 20% LFL, the unit is completely disconnected from the electrical supply. An enclosed IP54 control cabinet further reduces the risk of ignition sources.
Flexible airflow and control
Air distribution has also been designed around different installation requirements. TelAir 4 supports both downflow and displacement concepts and can be fitted with adjustable outlet grilles for targeted horizontal or vertical airflow. This helps minimise the mixing of cold and warm air.
WallAir 4 uses displacement cooling to promote direct cold-air stratification within the room. TelAir 4’s in-wall installation also offers protection from weather and vandalism while helping to limit noise emissions, making it suitable for sensitive residential and mixed-use environments.
Control and monitoring are handled through the E² BASIC controller, which incorporates an Ethernet interface, Modbus and multiple inputs and outputs. This allows the units to integrate with building management systems and data centre infrastructure management (DCIM) platforms. Password-protected access levels provide an additional layer of security, while dedicated inputs allow fire, smoke and intrusion alarms to be monitored.
The new generation is positioned as a flexible cooling solution for edge, 5G and other critical infrastructure environments, with the focus on combining reliability, energy efficiency, ease of use and adaptability. The units are available to order immediately.
