The eco-friendly evolution of HVAC solutions

By LG Air Solutions

HVAC units in particular have come a long way due to technological innovation, offering general consumers and businesses safer and more convenient ways to experience their surroundings.

Technology has influenced how we experience almost all aspects of our lives. It’s brought us comfort on many levels and continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

Not only that, but compared to older units, HVAC tech has become much more eco-friendly. The evolution of these systems has been the tip of the spear in the movement for increased efficiency in the air conditioning industry.

Old systems were prone to malfunctions and could pose health risks due to built up bacteria and ozone-depleting refrigerants – which, of course, is also unsafe for home use. Since then, systems have become so much more efficient, taking human comfort and user experience into account. Some of them can even be monitored and adjusted through a smartphone or tablet.

Working towards a greener environment

This sustainable efficiency was spurred on by consumer demand for lower energy consumption and sustainable technology. We see this when we look at the use of HFC-based refrigerants instead of CFCs and how consumers are now able to lower their own carbon footprint by reducing their overall energy expenses.

Of course, that’s not the only example of the strides taken by this industry. It’s incorporated many green technologies into HVAC designs, most notably thermally driven air conditioning, energy analysis software, and various others.

But why go ‘green’? Based on a 2019 report, it’s estimated that the number of sold HVAC units in 2024 will surpass 151 million. With so many units sold, HVAC manufacturers not only have a responsibility to their consumers and the earth to produce eco-friendly solutions, but also to themselves to ensure a resilient future in this ever-growing industry.

The South African government has also recognised its role in ensuring the efficient use of HVAC solutions, with by-laws and policies relating to issues ranging from installation to noise levels and the minimalisation of environmental pollution.

The responsibility of HVAC manufacturers

Technology as the driving force for improved and superior HVAC needs to ensure a safer environment with breathable solutions that offer high-performance and are energy conscious.

As an electronics giant, LG is at the forefront of HVAC innovation. Its LeviTech-equipped chillers have the potential to transform the market by offering exciting new features alongside enhanced usability and convenience. This tech can provide businesses with specialised climate control, providing fresh and crisp air for different working environments.

In addition to servicing commercial facilities, the company also provides healthier living environments with a powerful four-step filtration process that includes a pre-filter, dust electrification stage, an ultra-fine dust filter, and a deodorisation filter. The pre-filter has a multi-layer structure that removes larger dust particles, ensuring a healthier indoor environment.

In line with the requirements of our changing world, HVAC manufacturers need to continue to ensure a healthy environment with superior quality and comfort based on the latest technology available. Indeed, the industry has evolved quite drastically in the last 20 years, but when we compare now to then, who can truly say what the future of the HVAC industry will look like as we introduce smarter and more adaptable technologies than ever before?
