SAIRAC Gold Medal Award

The SAIRAC gold medal award is SAIRAC’s highest award and is only awarded for exceptional achievement.

The SAIRAC Gold Medal honours those that make outstanding contributions towards research and/or development in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry, impacting both nationally and internationally. Originated in 1957.

Award: One-ounce fine gold (24ct) medal and a Certificate stating that the recipient received this award for outstanding contributions towards research and/or development in the HERVAC industry both nationally and internationally.

A3 Certificate will have a copy of the medal mounted in front.

(Proposed with motivation to council by a regional committee for final approval by Council.)

SAIRAC Meritorious Award/Silver Medal

Awarded to any person within the air-conditioning or refrigeration industries whom the Council wishes to honour for exceptional service to the industry. Originated 1992.

Award: One-ounce fine silver (99.9%) medal and Certificate stating that the recipient received this award for exceptional service to the industry.

A3 Certificate will have a copy of the medal mounted in front.

(Proposed with motivation to council by a regional committee for final approval by Council. Replaces the meritorious plaque.)

SAIRAC Exceptional Service Award / Bronze Medal

In recognition of exceptional commitment to further the aims and objectives and outstanding service to the institute. Originated 2010.

Award: Bronze (Copper plated) medal and A3 Certificate stating that the recipient received this award for exceptional service to the institute.

Certificate will have a copy of the medal mounted in front.

(Proposed with motivation to council by a regional committee for final approval by Council. Replaces the meritorious plaque.)

Special Council awards

Honorary Fellow Membership

The granting of Honorary Fellow Membership gives recognition to those who have attained outstanding achievements in the Industry. (Council decision.)

Life Vice President

The granting of Life Vice President status gives recognition to those that have given outstanding service to the Institute on regional and national committees. (Council Decision.)

Award: Certificate and receives national committee minutes.

National Educational Prizes

In keeping with the objective to promote education and the dissemination of knowledge in the industry, SAIRAC offers the following prizes and student grants:

Dreosti Prize

Awarded on a national basis to the author of the Best Paper / Presentation presented at a SAIRAC Frigair Conference.

Prize: R3 500 (Council decision.)

SAIRAC Prize

Awarded on a national basis to the author of best thesis presented by a final year student studying refrigeration and air conditioning subjects at any university/higher-further education institution in South Africa.

Prize: R3 000

Proposed by university/higher-further education institution.

Best Student Award

Awarded annually to the best student studying air conditioning or refrigeration at a University of Technology, Technical College, higher-further education institution or SAIRAC courses.

Prize: R1 000

Proposed by University of Technology, Technical College, higher-further education institution or SAIRAC courses.

National Council Certificates

A3 Service Certificates for outgoing Presidents and Regional Chairmen. Certificate to indicate dates and region.

Centre Prizes

Centre Prize (i.e: Johannesburg Centre Prize). Awarded by each Centre for the Best Presentation of the year (Technical Talk) presented at that centre. The recipient does not have to be a member of SAIRAC.

Prize: R1 000

Proposed and approved at regional centres.

Best Learner Award

Awarded annually by each Centre to the to the best learner/apprentice studying air conditioning and refrigeration.

Prize: R1 000

Proposed and approved at regional centres.

The Mike Veldon Award

This will be awarded to the SAIRAC member who has contributed the most to SAIRAC over the past year. (Johannesburg Centre.)

Award: Certificate A3

Proposed and approved at regional centres.

The Dave Rough Award

This will be awarded to any person who is not a SAIRAC member but who has contributed the most to SAIRAC over the past year (Johannesburg centre).

Award: Certificate A3

Proposed and approved at regional centres.

Most diligent centre member

Awarded to the most diligent member at each centre. Proposed and approved at regional centres.
